Stansted Airport is one of the biggest airports serving the London area of the UK. Whilst it is not quite as big as Heathrow, it does offer a large variety of flights and indeed has many more budget flights than Heathrow Airport. This has made it a very popular destination to travel from and it now sees over 19 million passengers through its terminal every year.
With it being such a busy airport, getting there is very easy with a wide range of transport links, both public and private. If you’re going by road you can get to the airport by coming off the M25 at Junction 27 and then following the M11 to Junction 8a. From there you follow the A120, taking the first right hand turn after the roundabout. This will lead you to a smaller roundabout where you need to carry on straight ahead, and then you will have the airport itself well in your sights. Following this route will get you directly to the airport’s terminal and the short stay and valet parking bays. However, should you be staying in a mid-term car park then you will need to take a right at the smaller roundabout instead to get you to the mid-term bays.
For those staying in the long stay car park, the best way to find it is by turning left off the A120 almost immediately after joining and going straight ahead at the first roundabout, and left at the second one.
All the car parks are very well signposted so it should be difficult to get lost.

Everybody should forget what they’ve heard about parking at airports like Stansted and drive to the airport. There have been so many stereotypes bandied around that there is something of an inherent fear of parking at an airport amongst many people, yet this is completely unjustified. Many of these fears are completely unjustified and rather archaic and derive from a time when only the richest people were able to fly. The most prevalent of these fears is the cost of parking at the airport which is seen to be needing a second mortgage to be taken out in order to fund it! This was the case 50 years ago because it was only the upper echelons of society that were able to afford to fly to go on holiday. The car parking companies were therefore able to charge a lot more for parking because their clients could afford to foot the bill. However, as more people have begun to fly abroad, the companies have realised that they will profit much more if they make parking affordable for everyone, meaning more people park.
Therefore, do not be afraid to park at Stansted airport. The cost works out at a little under £1 per hour which means that it could work out a lot cheaper than the cost of train travel! On top of that you have a vehicle when you return and don’t have to walk very far before you are on your way home – the last thing you want is to be waiting around at the airport!
