Thrifty is a car hire company specialising in, as the name suggests, budget car hire, but it is important not to get budget confused with poor service and quality; in fact Thrifty offers high levels of service. This branch of Thrifty isn’t located right in Stansted Airport, but instead in the town of Stansted Mountfichet in Essex – the village that is home to Stansted Airport. This does mean you have a short distance to travel to get to your rental, but Thrifty offer a free shuttle service to get you to your rental if you’re flying to Stansted Airport as long as you land well within their office hours – these are 7am to 10pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 8pm Saturday and Sunday. If your flight does land outside these hours, an out of hours shuttle service can be booked in advance but a charge of £40 will be incurred.
Thrifty can offer you a range of 5 classes of cars – not an extraordinary number but competitive to other companies. These consist of a Ford Fiesta 3 door in economy class, a Ford Fiesta 5 door in compact class, a Vauxhall Astra in intermediate class, a VW Golf in standard and a VW Passat in the full size class. The prices for these cars start at £30 per day for the economy class, going up to £50 a day for the full size cars. Paying online in advance rather than paying on pickup saves around 10% on the hire fee.
